Mr. Pop Culture | Exploring the World of Pop Culture Pop culture is everywhere. You know it when you come to the Internet, listen to music, watch television, app-gaming or go to a movie, concert, or stage show. You know the artists, the actors and actresses, sports personalities and the games they play. Today, anything with a buzz is deemed pop culture. The book definition says pop culture is a collection of thoughts, ideas, attitudes, perspectives, images (you name it) preferred by the mainstream population, which is a sort of common denominator. The most common pop culture categories are entertainment (movies, music, TV), sports, news (as in people/places in news), politics, fashion/clothes, and technology. Slang has also become popular in our culture as each year seems to have its own slang signature, especially with tweens and teens. Terms such as "going viral" are new pop culture – not only the term but the viral product itself. Each one of us has our own pop-culture menu. Look at your apps, your bookmarks, your songs playlist, TV shows, movies: what you 're saying on your favorite social networks. Smartphones today are the center of your pop culture. If you want to know more about pop culture, read on as we are going to give you its history and different definitions. History of Pop Culture It was in the 19th century when the term "popular culture" was coined. Traditionally, it was associated with poor education and with the lower classes, which is the opposite of the "official culture" and higher education of the upper classes. During the Victorian-era, Britain experienced social changes with the rise of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries, which caused an increase in literacy rates. And with the growth of capitalism and industrialization, people started spending their money on entertainment, such as sports and the commercial idea of pubs. Reading also gained traction, and the Penny serials were published. These were cheap popular serial literature in the United Kingdom. Those were like the Victorian equivalent of video games. It was the first taste of mass-produced popular culture for the young in Britain. With the growing consumer culture and increased capacity for travel via the newly built railway that opened in 1825 in north-east England, a market for cheap popular literature was created with an ability to distribute on a large scale. With this, the first Penny serials were published in the 1830s due to the growing demand. Towards the end of the 19th century, the stress in the distinction from "official culture" became more pronounced. It is a usage that became established by the interbellum period or the period between wars. The meaning of popular culture began to be connected with those of mass culture, consumer culture, media culture, image culture, and culture for mass consumption from the end of World War II, following major cultural and social changes, which were brought by mass media innovations. The abbreviated form "pop" for popular, like in pop music, dates back from the late 1950s. Although not used in our lexicon back then, modern pop culture (as we know it) began with the baby boomer generation and "buying power." As boomers came of age with their disposable incomes – that influence led to the pop culture revolution. It began during the 1950s with rock n' roll, TV, Dick Clark and the hoola hoop, transistor radios, into the 1960s and beyond. The term "pop culture" became mainstream during the 1980s. Before this, we used "popular" to describe things such as top song playlists or "pop" as in art or "best" or "top" selling, as in books. Different Definitions of Pop Culture Based on the author of Cultural Theory and Popular Culture named John Storey, popular culture has different definitions. The quantifiable definition of culture has the problem that much "high culture", such as television dramatizations of Jane Austen, is also "popular." Aside from that, "pop culture" is also defined as the culture that is "leftover" when we have decided what high culture is. But many works overlap the boundaries, such as William Shakespeare, Leo Tolstoy, George Orwell, and Charles Dickens. The third definition of pop culture associates it with "mass culture" and ideas. This is seen as a commercial culture, which is mass-produced for mass consumption by mass media. If you take it from a Western European viewpoint, this can be compared to American culture. Pop culture can also be defined otherwise as an authentic culture of the people. However, this can be challenging because there are a lot of ways to define the "people." According to John Storey, popular culture emerged from the urbanization of the Industrial Revolution. For example, studies of Shakespeare locate much of the characteristic vitality of his drama in its participation in Renaissance popular culture. Other examples are contemporary practitioners like Dario Fo and John McGrath, who use popular culture in a sense that links to ancient folk traditions. Folk culture is at the opposite end of one spectrum from mass culture. As mentioned earlier, mass culture is mass-produced and mass-marketed on a large societal scale. Folk culture, on the other hand, is typically crafted individually, and it is produced and distributed on a local level. This can include folk art, folk music, folk crafts, and folklore. They usually originate from small, regional, or local groups of people, and are considered as representing only those small groups, and are propagating by word of mouth and not via mass media. Pop Culture Through the Decades Pop Culture is like a unifying bridge across time, which brings together generations of diverse backgrounds. Whether looking at the rock 'n' roll revolution of the 1960s or the thriving social networking websites of today, each period in America's cultural history develops its own exceptional take on the qualities that define our lives. With this, people believed there would be a collapse in the economy as most companies and agencies rely on computers. Fortunately, a lot of organizations were able to upgrade their computer systems, which eliminated the threat. But Facebook eventually found its competitors when Instagram and Pinterest were launched in the same year. In the world of mobile phones, the 4G broadband cellular network became popular. Cloud services were also becoming popular in 2011. With this, Apple released its own Cloud service called iCloud. But it was also in the same year when Apple's co-founder, Steve Jobs, passed away. Home The corporate EHS function, which oversees environmental, health and safety compliance began to merge at the management level around 1990. The first area is environmental management, which emerged as a profession in the 1970s, following the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other state-level regulatory systems. As companies began limiting waste to prevent pollution, they needed engineers to adapt scrubbers, filters, and other process changes to existing manufacturing systems. Workplace safety and occupational health also grew in importance during this time, with the passage of legislation such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Over time, companies developed systematic way of complying with environmental, health and safety regulations. Corporations began tracking key measures and looking for ways to improve their performance. Then, in the 1990s, improvements in data technology management made it easier for an organization to analyze its operations. Around that time, corporations began to merge oversight for environmental, health and safety programs through a new management role called EHS. The newly appointed leaders, who began their careers in one of the three sub-disciplines, started to create systems to drive EHS progress across all operations. Today, with the advent of sustainability, EHS professionals are leading corporate efforts toward sustainability. Building on their decades of experience, EHS leaders are striving to meet this challenge, creating systems to reduce energy use, conserve water, and better communicate with stakeholders. Indeed, a 2009 survey found that two-thirds of the sustainability initiatives at member companies are being led or managed by the EHS

But how much are these investments really worth and weigh to create exclusive shows? This is explained by a report dedicated to the USA and signed by Hub Entertainment Research, which tries to give some numbers regarding the importance of guaranteeing original and quality content on its platform. When the subscription passes for exclusive shows The analysis by Hub Entertainment Research reveals first of all that more than half of users between 16 and 34 who use video on demand subscriptions decide to subscribe to a service in order to access the vision of a specific and particular show (54%). And when it comes to "original content", the market reference today is Netflix. The streaming entertainment giant is in fact mentioned as the best producer of original shows by almost a quarter of the panel of respondents (23%). And the audience of the respondents is absolutely heterogeneous: it covers, in fact, an age group from 16 to 74 years, all users who regularly watch TV during the week and who have access to broadband. Netflix distances everyone in video on demand Behind Netflix, the void: or almost. In fact, speaking of original content, the top 5 of the networks mentioned by users sees Amazon Prime Video, Espn, Cbs and Hbo follow : but if for the first two the mentions are around 6%, for the fourth and fifth service it drops to 5% and 4% respectively. Data that on the one hand are explained by the Netflix domain among the most popular streaming platforms, on the other by its strongly generalized adoption. How much does the original content weigh? As we said in the beginning, the term "original content" has a strong impact on users' choices . For the most part, in fact, it has a decisive impact on the interest they can show towards a show. Three out of five consumers, in fact, point out that they are a little more (41%) or much more interested (16%) in a new program when announced as exclusive. Disney + on boarding: Here are the most popular video on demand services with Netflix Never without Netflix : this unwavering evidence for 44% of consumers interviewed by Hub Entertainment Research last year, is confirmed also in this but with a slight drop in consents (39%). The streaming giant is, in fact, still considered the most indispensable among video on demand services, but increasingly more and more fierce competitors appear: in fact, in the ranking, follow Cbs (28%), Abc (28%), Nbc (26%) and Espn (22%). Another player, on the market for just a few months, is already gaining a lot of ground and is preparing to play an absolute leading role in the near future: it is Disney +, already considered an indispensable service by 14% of respondents from the Hub Entertainment Research survey. On a further note: it seems that Mickey Mouse and company streaming subscribers are more likely to sign up for a new service linked to a particular show, with 61% claiming to have done so in the course of 2019. How streaming subscribers behave Not all users who choose a streaming service behave the same way. The first discriminant, in terms of choices, is connected to the age group. If between 16 and 34 years old, as explained at the beginning, 54% of users choose to subscribe to a subscription to access the vision of a specific show, only 22% of those over 35 years of age behave in the same way. But it is not the only difference in terms of choices. 44% of the oldest of the users of a service are more likely to choose a show on the basis of gender than the panel of the youngest (32%).At the same time, the so-called older viewers are more inclined (24%) to choose a program based on the criterion of which is the service that makes it usable compared to younger viewers (19%). To counterbalance, the predisposition of the youngest (25% vs. 16%) to be more attracted by the vision of shows where all the episodes in a single solution are made available by the on demand service : a propensity that brings them even to an uninterrupted view of the program until its conclusion, the so-called binge watching phenomenon . Never again without: Which are the video on demand services that cannot be renounced The latest consideration of Hub Entertainment Research's analysis of video on demand services is linked to a possible forced choice. What could users not give up? For those aged between 16 and 34 the answer is obvious: Netflix (53%). But, somewhat surprisingly, for the younger ones they follow Hulu (26%) and Disney + (25%). Instead, the choices of the over 35 years and of the older users in general are completely different : the option of indispensable services, for them, sees Cbs (38%), Nbc (35%) and Abc (35%) excel. With all due respect to Netflix. You may also like https://bloghuff.co.uk/

Mass Elite - Lacrosse Club Mass Elite Lacrosse is a competitive club lacrosse program that has been dedicated to developing the talents of youth and high school girls’ lacrosse players since 1999. Mass Elite teams compete in local tournaments and showcases as well as on the National recruiting tournament circuit. Over the past 15 years, Mass Elite players and coaches have contributed to the rapid growth of lacrosse in New England. Mass Elite players are among the strongest and most dedicated student-athletes in New England. The players are understated, fearless and humble; they stand out because their skill, sportsmanship and competitive spirit are obvious to all who watch. The primary goal of Mass Elite Lacrosse is student-athlete development. The Mass Elite coaching staff, comprised of the top high school and college coaches in Massachusetts, understands the importance of hard work, commitment, and teamwork both on and off the field. Our coaches are not only passionate about improving the athleticism and skill set of each Mass Elite player, but they assist our high school student-athletes in building self-confidence and creating lifelong friendships. Our coaches are instrumental in assisting Mass Elite student-athletes with navigating the college recruiting process. The success achieved by Mass Elite alumnae at the college level and beyond is evidence that the experience of the Mass Elite coaching staff combined with the multitude of practice and tournament opportunities offered to our student-athletes is an invaluable combination.HISTORYFounded in the fall of 1999, Mass Elite was the first club lacrosse program for female athletes in Massachusetts. Mass Elite began as one elite girl’s travel team for players in grades nine through twelve. Former Scituate High School varsity coach, Paula Evans, and former Westwood High School varsity coach, Leslie Frank, created Mass Elite in order to provide high school student-athletes an opportunity to play lacrosse year-round. Paula and Leslie recognized that in order to develop athletes’ into skilled lacrosse players, Massachusetts lacked two key components: higher levels of competition and more play opportunities. So Paula and Leslie began to look for tournaments in the lacrosse “hot-beds” of the country: Long Island and upstate New York and the Mid-Atlantic region including Maryland, Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. With one group of very dedicate athletes (and aspiring lacrosse players), Paula and Leslie traveled the east coast hoping to inspire their players to reach the next level, expose their athlete’s to an increased speed of play and encourage the growth of lacrosse throughout Massachusetts.Today, Mass Elite has become a nationally-respected lacrosse club. We are comprised of female student-athletes in grades four through twelve from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Each grade level rosters between two and three full teams. Additionally, due to the growing success of Mass Elite teams and players, our club has also welcomed players from Indiana, Michigan and North Carolina.MISSIONMass Elite is dedicated to the growth and development of each one of our players in four key areas: athletic performance/skill, competition, leadership and sportsmanship. We challenge every player to maximize their potential with intense fitness and practice sessions designed to improve stick stills, enhance field vision and teach game strategy. We embrace the competitive spirit of our teams while promoting the importance of sportsmanship and ability to win with grace and lose with class. Moreover, Mass Elite players are encouraged to be leaders on the field, in the classroom and in their communities.EXPECTATIONSMass Elite Club Lacrosse teams have similar expectations to most high school and college teams; we expect our players to be committed and to make every attempt to be at all practices as well as participate in three to four tournaments per season. The players that succeed in our program recognize that their skill and athletic development is directly proportionate to the amount of time they practice and play. Mass Elite challenges players to work hard and to never rest on their accomplishments. Athletes wake up every day knowing that they need to push themselves to be better athletically and academically. All college opportunities begin with a strong academic profile; players that are strong students are smart lacrosse players. We teach our athletes the importance of teamwork, camaraderie, leadership, honesty, fairness and competition. Great players are understated, humble and quiet; they standout because their skill, sportsmanship and team play are obvious to all who watch.
